As more consumers become environmentally conscious, many businesses are discovering the benefits of going green. The Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association is working hard to help businesses in the region improve their environmental impact to attract these consumers by showcasing tourism companies who are working hard to be as sustainable as possible.
The South Okanagan, home to a very sensitive Canadian ecosystem, is also home to Burrowing Owl Estate Winery located in Oliver, BC. Proprietor Jim Wyse takes a “do no harm” approach to operating their family business. They have reduced their energy consumption by building the winery into the earth, eliminating the need for heating and cooling. They have also installed solar hot water and converted all their irrigation to a drip system.
Find out how they got their name and learn more about their sustainability practices in this video, created by the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association.
